Registration opens Feb. 1 for Native basket workshops

Jacy Sohappy, traditional arts manager at Crow’s Shadow Institute of the Arts, will be leading two round bag weaving workshops on Feb. 23 and 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art on the Pullman campus. Sohappy will demonstrate different techniques and provide patterns for use in creating a miniature woven basket using hemp twine and yarn. The workshop is free, hosted by the Common Reading Program and Museum of Art, with all materials and lunch provided. Twelve spots are available for each workshop day, with six of the 12 reserved for WSU students.

Registration will open at noon on Thursday, Feb. 1.

Sohappy will also be presenting on traditional Indigenous arts with Michael Holloman at noon on Feb. 22 in the Pavillion of the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.
