When was the last time you spoke in front of your peers? How about the last time you addressed a group of 3,000 people? This is what the Washington FFA State Officer team is gearing up to do in two months! On May 12, 13, 14 more than 3,000 FFA members, parents and guests will converge in Pullman for the 2016 Washington FFA State Convention – a weekend of motivation, leadership, youth recognition adn blue corduroy.
The Washington FFA Association organizes, plans and conducts this weekend filled with high energy, inspiration and celebration – led by our six student officers. During the convention there will be a plethora of opportunities to engage in: leadership workshops, official business sessions that will direct the future of the organization that is 8,500+ members strong in Washington, recognize and hear from nationally recognized keynote speakers, as well as award sessions that honor individual and team successes.
And speaking of recognizing FFA members – Washington’s FFA members continue to excel! At this year’s convention more than 185 members will receive their state degrees, 90+ members will be recognized for excellence in a variety of proficiency areas, and ~600 students will compete for the top spots in various Career Development Events.
Isn’t it amazing and rewarding that there is a program like the FFA, grounded in classroom education that is available to students so that they can develop premier leadership, personal growth, and career success? And YOU can be a part of this exciting event too!
There are also national qualifying Career Development Events occurring at the convention – everything from Public Speaking and Parliamentary Procedure to Meats Evaluation and Dairy Foods Judging. The convention truly spans the gamut and if you are interested, we’d love to have WSU faculty and staff help as judges.
