Pay-affecting benefits changes – January 2022

Supplemental Life Insurance premium rates are set by age, and increase Jan. 1 of the following year when you age up into the next bracket. If you had a 5th or 10th birthday in 2021 (turning 45, 60, etc.), you will see an increase to the next life insurance premium level effective with your Jan. 1–15 earnings, reflected on your Jan. 25 paycheck. Requests to change supplemental life insurance may be submitted to MetLife at any time.

Long Term Disability coverage underwent several plan changes for 2022, and anyone not previously enrolled in Supplemental LTD was auto-enrolled effective Jan. 1. Supplemental LTD coverage also now has a standard 90-day waiting period, so if you previously were enrolled with a higher waiting period, your premiums may have increased with this change. The Jan. 10 paycheck reflected what your LTD coverage was in 2021; if you made an LTD election during open enrollment, or were defaulted to the 60% LTD plan, you will see that premium change reflected on your Jan. 25 check. Supplemental LTD can be reduced or declined at any time through Workday, effective the first of the month following submission. Likewise, requests to enroll in coverage or increase your coverage to the 60% benefit can occur at any time, but will require underwriting.
