Opening reception: MASC exhibit on frauds, fakes and forgeries opens April 17

The opening reception for a new exhibit in WSU Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections, called “Frauds, Fakes and Forgeries: Deception in the Archives,” is planned from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the MASC lobby at Terrell Library.

Many libraries and archives have in their collections items that are not what they seem. Sometimes with sound reasons, and sometimes unintentionally, these institutions provide a home for documents that are forged, counterfeit, fraudulent, fake and honest facsimiles that are mistaken for authentic originals. Learn about the MASC’s featured “frauds,” including a forged Abraham Lincoln manuscript, rare books mutilated and altered by a famous book thief, and other examples of problematic documents.
