Oct. 18 – Institute for Shock Physics and School of the Environment Joint seminar

Institute for Shock Physics and School of the Environment cordially invites you to join us for our upcoming joint seminar.

Dr. June Wicks, Department of Geosciences, Princeton University will present, From Super-earth interiors to our own earth’s surface:  using dynamic compression to study our universe.

Experimental access to materials at extreme (> terapascal) pressures is achievable through dynamic compression techniques. In this work, I will present examples of studies coupling laser-based dynamic compression with in situ X-ray diffraction, which together provide unprecedented access to the structure of materials during dynamic loading. From determining the structure of cores of large extrasolar planets, to interpreting the dynamic history of minerals found at meteor impact craters, our scientific goals require the knowledge of material behavior as a function of both pressure and time.

Tuesday, October 18,  at 12:10 p.m. in Fulmer 201 on the Pullman Campus and via AMS.

AMS locations are as follow:
WSU Vancouver(VSCI 240)
Puyallup REC (Puyallup)(mobile unit)
