Professor Chen-Ching Liu will discuss reliability and resilience of power distribution systems at the annual Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Lecture.
The free and public event will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, November 7, in Goertzen Hall 21 on the WSU campus.
Liu, Boeing Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering, received the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture’s outstanding researcher award earlier this year. In the presentation, he will discuss the utilization and practical implementation of smart meters and remote control capabilities for system recovery after power outages.
Liu, who joined WSU in 2011, is the founding director of WSU’s Energy Systems Innovation Center. He is an international leader recognized for his pioneering contributions to the development of decision support systems for power systems and as a leader in power system restoration. He has received grant support from National Science Foundation, Department of Energy/PNNL, Electric Power Research Institute, Power System Engineering Research Center, Joint Center for Aerospace Technology Innovation, Avista, Puget Sound Energy and Microsoft. He is part of a team in partnership with PNNL and University of Washington that earlier this year received a $4.5 million grant from the State of Washington Clean Energy Funds and Department of Energy for the Energy Storage and Solar Energy Devices project.
He is recipient of an IEEE Third Millennium Medal and the Power and Energy Society Outstanding Power Engineering Educator Award. He also holds a Doctor Honoris Causa from Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania, is a fellow of the IEEE, and is a member of the Washington State Academy of Sciences.
The Anjan Bose Outstanding Researcher Award was created by the Executive Leadership Board for the College of Engineering and Architecture along with friends and alumni to honor Anjan Bose for his service to the college as dean. To acknowledge Bose’s support of faculty scholarship and to honor his internationally renowned reputation for research, the award annually recognizes and rewards the top faculty researcher in the college.
