Non-Invasive Clinical Study for Dogs with Arthritis

NSAID Clinical Arthritis Study: The Comparative Orthopedic Research Laboratory at Washington State University is continuing enrollment for a study designed to evaluate the effectiveness, safety, and oral acceptability of a flavored tablet product for dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the shoulder, hip, knee, or elbow joint. The investigatory veterinary product is a member of a class of products known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that are used to control pain and inflammation.

Enrollees in the study will need to bring their dog to the clinic four separate times over an approximate 5-week period. Dogs must be greater than or equal to 6 weeks of age, weight: 15-80kg (33-176lb), non-fractious, absence of concurrent orthopedic, neurological, or uncontrolled systemic disorders, does not exhibit gross instability of stifle joint (ruptured cruciate ligament), no history of adverse reactions to opioids, NSAIDS, or Nutraceutical products. Previous diagnoses of arthritis by a veterinarian is preferred.

Benefits: The costs of all study procedures, including the study’s required radiographs (and associated sedatives if needed), office visits, and laboratory tests are provided free of charge. There will be a monitary incentive to be awarded to the client upon completion of the study, if all requirements are met.

Clinical Effectiveness of Phycox® in Elbow Osteoarthritis in Dogs: This clinical study will evaluate the efficacy of Phycox® in pain management of dogs with previously diagnosed osteoarthritis of the elbow only. The study will run 24 weeks with monthly recheck exams in Pullman. Dogs must weigh between 35-125lb, exhibit good health as shown by blood and urinalysis results, diagnosed by a veterinarian with naturally occurring elbow osteoarthritis, have no other disease state, medical  condition, or behavioral aggression which would interfere with the dog’s ability to complete the trial or to be evaluated and does not have a history of intolerance to Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs. Previous diagnoses of arthritis of the elbow only is a requirement.

Benefits: The costs of all study procedures, including the study’s required radiographs (and associated sedatives if needed), office visits, and laboratory tests are provided free of charge. There will be a monitary incentive to be awarded to the client upon completion of the study, if all requirements are met.
