Nominations for Women of Distinction and Woman of the Year

Now Accepting Nominations for the Woman of the Year

WSU’s President’s Commission on the Status of Women and Women’s Resource Center are now accepting nominations for the Woman of the Year and Women of Distinction.  Every March, during National Women’s History month, we honor and celebrate women who promote social change, work to increase equality, mentor and nurture the next generation, and strive to build vibrant and healthy communities.  If you know a woman whose work embodies these goals, we encourage you to submit a nomination in recognition of her accomplishments and contributions.

Women of Distinction include an alumna, an employee (faculty and/or staff), a student (undergraduate or graduate), and a woman not affiliated with WSU.  The Woman of the Year is selected from the total candidate pool.  Nominations are due by February 29, 2016.

The theme for 2016 is Working to Form a More Perfect Union: Honoring Women in Public Service and Government.

To be considered for the awards the nominee must be:

  • A woman who has distinguished herself in academic work, career, leadership, public service, or any combination thereof.
  • A woman who has contributed to the personal growth and success of others, especially women, through education, research, or public or volunteer service above and beyond her expected job responsibilities.
  • A woman whose achievements create positive social change, increase equality for all, and build community through service.
  • A woman not honored with this award in the last five years.
