A group of students from the School of Design and Construction and the graduate program in Public History will unveil materials for a Pullman walking tour on Tuesday, May 6, in the WSU Brelsford Visitor Center from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The presentation will begin at 5:15 p.m.
The event is part of an architecture spring seminar class, taught by Phil Gruen, associate professor and assistant director in the School of Design and Construction, with assistance from Robert Franklin, an M.A candidate in the Public History program.
The students worked for the Pullman Historic Preservation Commission on an update of the city’s walking tour brochure. The original brochure was developed in 1987 and might be considered nearly a historic relic itself, since it was created before many current WSU students were even born. The multidisciplinary, senior and graduate-level class was focused on issues of historic preservation, tourism, and urban promotion, and the students conducted archival research and contributed original sketches, maps, and a unique narrative of major themes that have shaped Pullman over time. They also worked with the WSU Center for Civic Engagement on the project. The presentation is free and open to the public.
