Thursday, May 20, is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). The purpose of GAAD is to get those who create digital technology (websites, online courses, digital materials, online documents, software, mobile apps, etc.) thinking and learning about making digital technology accessible and inclusive to people with varying abilities.
On May 20, take an hour, or two, to:
- Learn how accessible digital content benefits everyone (perspective videos).
- Explore how people with disabilities use the web.
- Access “An Introduction to Screen Readers” recorded webinar, provided by Deque.
- Experience first-hand the impact of digital accessibility (GAAD).
- Participate in virtual activities to celebrate GAAD.
- Attend a Bootcamp to learn the Basic Digital Accessibility Fundamentals, provided by Deque.
- Join one or more live webinars focused on empowering people to do more with digital accessibility, provided by SiteImprove.
Enjoy the day! In the next few weeks, try to take one piece of information you learned from Global Accessible Awareness Day and use it to improve the accessibility of your WSU digital technology.
