ITS Maintenance: Everett VPN outage July 19th

On Monday, July 19th, from 8 to 10 p.m., Information Technology Services will be standardizing the VPN portal address for WSU Everett.

Currently, there are four portals: isvpn.everett.wsu.edu, staffvpn.everett.wsuedu, studentvpn.everett.wsu.edu, and partnervpn.everett.wsu.edu.  The new portal for all users will be vpn.everett.wsu.edu (173.229.63.200).

Role-based networks will be set up for users within the VPN IP space:

Students – 10.229.248.0/23 (NAT: 173.229.63.129) Future Expansion / Role Based VPN Networks – 10.229.250.0/24 and 10.229.252.0/23 Sponsored FIDs – 10.229.251.0/24 (NAT: 173.229.63.130) Faculty/Staff – 10.229.254.0/24 (NAT: 173.229.63.131) Partners – 10.229.255.0/24 (NAT: 173.229.63.132)

Everett VPN users should plan for a VPN service outage throughout the maintenance period and will need to change the portal address when reconnecting after the changes. Following the maintenance, customers who manage firewalls may need to update their firewall in order to utilize the new IP ranges.

ITS will also be upgrading the Global Protect client to address some bugs. Users may be prompted to upgrade the client the next time they connect to the Everett VPN service.

To change the VPN portal in the GlobalProtect client, please follow the following steps:

  1. When not connected to the VPN, open up GlobalProtect and select the menu near the top right of the app
  2.  Select Settings
  3. Under the “General” tab, select the [  *+*  ] icon near the bottom
  4. In the text window that appears, enter: vpn.everett.wsu.edu
  5. Select Save
  6. To remove the old portal used, highlight that entry and select the [  *–*  ] icon near the bottom
  7. When you open GlobalProtect again, it will prompt you to choose the portal you want to connect to
  8. Select vpn.everett.wsu.edu
