The Common Reading Program is accepting nominations for the 2024–25 Common Reading book through Monday, April 3. We encourage faculty, staff, and students to nominate books that would spark interesting, cross-disciplinary conversations on our campuses by visiting commonreading.wsu.edu/nominations/submit.
For the 2023–24 academic year, the Common Reading program will again be using Robin Wall Kimmerer’s “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.” Retaining this book for a second year, a first in the program’s sixteen year history, is allowing the program to move up the selection process for the 2024–25 book and also will take advantage of a number of university opportunities related to “Braiding Sweetgrass” in the coming year.
With an exciting year of programming already in the planning stage for next year, the Common Reading Program invites faculty and programs across the system to consider continued or new use of Kimmerer’s essay collection in 2023–24. In addition, if you have ideas about possible collaborations or events related to “Braiding Sweetgrass,” please contact Karen Weathermon, kweathermon@wsu.edu.
