The Washington State University Common Reading Program hosts John Roll to discuss “Health Issues and Incarceration” at 4 p.m. on March 29 in Todd 130. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Roll is a professor and senior vice chancellor at the WSU Health Sciences campus in Spokane. He is the founding director of the WSU Program of Excellence in the Addictions and the Co-Director of the WSU Translational Addiction Research Center.
Roll will speak about the intersections of substance addictions, mental health, and the criminal justice system. He will highlight how current research is being used to improve various programs.
The Common Reading Program is part of WSU Undergraduate Education and hosts expert guest lectures, film showings, and other events that explore the topics raised in this year’s chosen book, “Just Mercy” by Bryan Stevenson. Since 2006, the program has stimulated academic discussions in first-year courses, classrooms, and beyond, touching the academic lives of thousands of WSU first-year and other students.
