Scalar developers Craig Dietrich and Tara McPherson will be hosting a workshop titled “Introduction to Scalar” in the CDSC Spring Series Friday, March 4, from 9 a.m. – noon in the CDSC (Holland Libraries, 4th Floor).
Scalar is a free, open source authoring and publishing platform that’s designed to make it easy for authors to create long-form, born-digital scholarship online. Scalar enables users to assemble media from multiple sources and juxtapose them with their own writing in a variety of ways, with minimal technical expertise required. The workshop will cover basic features of the platform: a review of existing Scalar books and a hands-on introduction to paths, tags, annotations and importing media. If you’re interested in digital platforms for composing or multimodal composition this is a great introduction to born-digital scholarship that is not only multimodal, but also open-access and nonlinear!
