International Open Access Week highlights open scholarship over commercialization

International Open Access Week 2023, set for Oct. 23–29 with the theme of “Community over Commercialization,” encourages a candid conversation about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community — and which do not, say organizers.

This year’s theme provides “an opportunity to join together, take action, and raise awareness around the importance of community control of knowledge-sharing systems,” according to the Open Access Week website.

“Open access scholarship is the key to advancements in knowledge,” said WSU Libraries Dean Jay Starratt.
