As a way to include the voices of international civil rights leaders in discussions leading up to the WSU MLK Community Celebration in January, the MLK Program has teamed up with International Programs and the International Student Center to create the Global Hero Project.
The Global Hero Project invites international students to submit an essay or creative writing about civil rights leaders from their country who has been a source of inspiration. The Project is looking to showcase international figures who have advocated for social justice by being a voice for the oppressed and persecuted, defended the poor, or have self-sacrificed for something greater than a political agenda.
The deadline to submit is Monday, Nov. 28, and the top three submission will receive $300, $200, or $100 educational scholarships relative to their standing. Each will also receive a ticket to attend the Latah County Human Rights Task Force Breakfast in Moscow on Jan. 21.
Students can find more information and submit their work by visiting mlk.wsu.edu. Questions can be directed to Maria de Jesus Dixon, mdj.dixon@wsu.edu.
