The Harm Reduction & Recovery Services (HRRS) team on the Pullman campus invites faculty members across the Washington State University system to consider providing their students with extra credit for participating in overdose prevention training.
No matter the classes’ academic discipline, size, or physical location, HRRS manager Patricia Maarhuis said her program welcomes student participation. To get started, faculty members need only send an email to Cougs for Recovery indicating their interest and HRRS will handle all the logistics.
Professors on all campuses can choose for their students to participate in a pre-scheduled virtual training, while those in Pullman can also choose an on-campus session. Special training sessions can be arranged.
Allison Matthews, scholarly associate professor of psychology at WSU Tri-Cities, offered her Psych 265 students extra credit to attend a virtual training session in October and said it was a positive experience for everyone involved. She encourages other faculty to give it a try.
The final training session of the semester is on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 4 p.m. (virtual) and spring semester dates will be posted in December on this Cougar Health Services web page.
