This presidential election year, the WSU Center for Civic Engagement is here to help your voice be heard on the important issues at stake – immigration, climate change, college access, health care, employment, income inequality, international relations, etc. The next President, selected on November 8, will have a significant impact on all of these issues and more.
While November is still a few months away, caucuses and primaries have already begun across the US to select the Republican and Democratic candidates for President. Washington State holds both a primary and caucuses, and all registered voters can participate. The Republican Caucus will take place on Saturday, February 20, while the Democratic Caucus will take place on Saturday, March 26. You must be a registered voter as well as registered with the party before the caucus of your choice to participate. The Washington presidential primary is scheduled for May 24, so all registered voters will receive a standard ballot in the mail 18 days prior to the vote. To participate in the primary, you must be registered to vote by May 16.
The CCE will hold a variety of events for WSU students throughout the semester. Public Square discussions focusing on election issues will take place in Pullman on March 8 and April 21, and these events will be live streamed for Global Campus students. A third Public Square discussion will take place at the annual Global Campus Tacoma Rendezvous for Global students.
The CCE will also hold a voter registration table on the CUB first floor on the Pullman campus on Wednesdays and Thursdays from March 30 through April 14 and on weekdays April 18 through April 25. The table will be open 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. More events for the fall semester will be announced over the summer, so stay tuned!
