Professor Gary Arthur from Grays Harbor College and the Evergreen State College Reservation-Based Native Studies program will be on campus in Pullman this week to conduct classroom case study events on the American Indian mascot controversy. In addition to his anthropology and comparative ethnic studies classroom events, Professor Arthur will be discussing his most recent Enduring Legacies case, ‘The Aftermath of Redskins Indian Mascot Decisions: What’s Next?’ as well as reservation-based education opportunities in the Northwest on Friday, October 31, from 3-4:30 p.m. in College Hall, Room 220.
Gary Arthur is a professor at Grays Harbor and Reservation-Based Native Studies program out of the Longhouse at Evergreen State College. Professor Arthur has been a career-long educator in Native and non-Native communities in the Subarctic and Northwest Coast, and has coached athletics teams while teaching in several communities. Among other topics, Professor Arthur is devoted to health education in physical and virtual classrooms, and has been a longtime contributor to the Enduring Legacies Native Cases project, funded by the National Science Foundation and the Nisqually Tribe.
