Fulbright Scholar and musician to talk on music and nature

Composer and musician Yii Kah Hoe will be presenting on his work at a Common Reading talk on Wednesday, March 8, at 4 p.m. in Kimbrough 101. Yii, who is spending this year as a Fulbright Scholar in residence at WSU, will be speaking about his project GEMA Hutan, which preserves the vanishing sounds of Borneo’s rainforests by incorporating them into musical compositions.

This talk extends to a global context the topics of valuing and preserving natural ecosystems that are raised by WSU’s current Common Reading book, “Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants.” More about the Common Reading Program, including a link to the recent author lecture by Robin Wall Kimmerer, can be found at commonreading.wsu.edu.
