The “COOL” Cat Study: Clopidogrel Only vs. with Omeprazole TriaL
We would like to invite you to help us study whether the antacid, omeprazole, reduces the effectiveness of clopidogrel (Plavix®) in cats. Recent studies in humans show that omeprazole reduces the blood-thinning effects of clopidogrel. Our goal is to determine if the same holds true for cats.
We’re looking for…
CATS who are:
- Healthy
- 2-8 years of age
- Weigh at least 9lbs
- Comfortable going to the veterinarian and taking oral medication
And cat OWNERS who will:
- Give their cat medication on a prescribed schedule
- Record medication times in a treatment log
- Bring their cat to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital for 7 visits
The study provides the following testing for free: CBC, Serum Chemistry, Urinalysis, FIV/FeLV screening, echocardiogram, and a full physical examination (a $500 value).
Upon completion of the study each COOL cat will receive a cool cat bowtie and the owner will receive a $10 Ferdinand’s gift certificate for a cool treat!
