Dr. David Squires – Universities of the Air, Libraries Without Walls (Lecture)

Join us for a public talk with Dr. David Squires titled “Universities of the Air, Libraries Without Walls” in the CDSC Spring Series Thursday, March 24, from 3  — 4 p.m. in the CDSC (Holland Libraries, 4th Floor).

This talk will chart an alternative history of digital humanities projects. Rather than beginning with digital computing and screen-based media, it will consider radio programming as a seminal form of electronic transmission. By reorienting the history of digital humanities we can begin to see how early twentieth-century broadcasting pioneered an unsustainable ideology of dematerialization now pervasive in the world of cloud computing.
