Documentary film and Common Reading talk on Bias, Policing

The Common Reading Program is hosting a screening of the 2018 documentary Bias, today from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The film features the work of WSU faculty Lois James and Steve James, who will then speak about their work on Tuesday, October 6 at 4:30 p.m. Their talk, “The Impact of Bias on Officer Decision Making,” will present their research on the impact of bias on police-citizen interactions, including use of force.

The presenters, faculty members in the College of Nursing, work frequently with police departments across the nation to increase their awareness of implicit bias as a means of reducing its effect on decision making. Zoom links for both the documentary screening and Tuesday’s talk are available from the Common Reading calendar, commonreading.wsu.edu/calendar/.
