Department of Psychology guest speaker Wednesday, March 23

The Department of Psychology welcomes Dr. Sherwin Cotler, a graduate of the WSU doctoral program in psychology, who will deliver a lecture entitled Forty-five Years as a Clinical Psychologist — What I Learned and What I Would Do Differently. The lecture is Wednesday, March 23, 5 – 6 p.m. in Pullman at the Food Science/Human Nutrition Building (FSHN T101) and available through AMS in Vancouver (VECS 105) and Tri-cities (TCIC 125T). The lecture is free and open to the public.

About the speaker: Sherwin Cotler, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in private practice who deals primarily with trauma, depression, anxiety and helping individuals discover healthier ways of living. During the past thirty years, he has worked in universities, hospitals, community clinics, and various health care facilities. He has also served as a consultant and trainer to a number of different state agencies, businesses, police departments, hospitals, schools, and corporations throughout the country. Early in his career, he was a child psychologist and one of five mental health coordinators for children’s services in Los Angeles County. For over ten years, he directed an outpatient treatment program for individuals who experience panic episodes and phobias. He is a founding member and currently the co-clinical director of a  Free Mental Health Clinic in Olympia, Washington, and is actively involved in working with other professionals on how to take better care of themselves as they take on the responsibilities of helping others.
