Department of Mathematics and Statistics to host American Mathematical Society Meeting

On April 22 and 23, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will be hosting the
Western Sectional Meeting of the American Mathematical Society.

The meeting will feature plenary talks by Professors Michael Hitrik of UCLA, Andrew Raich
of the University of Arkansas, and Daniel Rogalski of the University of California, San Diego.
In addition, there will over three hundred fifty shorter talks given in twenty-two parallel
sessions. There is an expected attendance of around 400. Although many of the participants
will be from the western U.S., there are registrants from at least 35 U.S. states,
as well as Canada and Mexico.

The parallel sessions will cover a wide range of topics, including aspects of
theoretical mathematics, applied mathematics, mathematical biology, data science,
and mathematics education.

The conference runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on Sunday, April 23. There is a registration fee. The conference will take place in the Smith Center for Undergraduate Education and Wilson-Short Hall. On Saturday evening the Department of Mathematics and Statistics will be hosting a reception for all participants in the University Art Museum.
