ITS to delete email mailboxes of former employees

Information Technology Services (ITS), starting March 15, will be deleting on premise ITS Exchange mailboxes belonging to former employees, including “hourly or temp” employees, who have been separated from WSU for over 365 days as of February 18, 2016. This will not affect any forwarding of e-mail addresses.

ITS recognizes there will be special cases where the Exchange mailbox needs to be retained. Those will be handled on a case by case basis. If the customer is still associated with WSU and wants to retain their Exchange mailbox, they will need to contact CougTech at 509-335-4357 or cougtech@wsu.edu prior to March 11.

ITS recommends all departments follow up on any emeritus faculty appointments in their areas to ensure the proper appointment process has been followed to ensure uninterrupted email service.

Users will be notified prior to their mailboxes being deleted and they can also easily be restored if there are exceptions.

ITS is contacting each impacted Exchange mailbox holder with a message similar to this, and will follow up with a second message several days prior to actual deletion of the mailbox.

While the Exchange email mailbox may be going away, the @wsu.edu email address is not. This email address is still valid and email directed to that address can be forwarded to another email provider. To change the @wsu.edu email forwarding address visit https://webutil.wsu.edu/apps/emailforwarding/Default.aspx and authenticate with a WSU Network ID, then click on the “Change your email destination address”.

If there are questions or concerns, please contact CougTech at 509-335-4357 or cougtech@wsu.edu

Thank you,
