Common Reading screening food sovereignty documentary, Dec. 5

The Common Reading Program concludes its fall semester events with a screening of the short documentary “Return: Reclaiming Foodways for Health and Spirit” at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 5, in CUE 203. The 2019 film highlights efforts of Indigenous communities across the U.S. to reclaim traditional foodways and features the Pueblo Food Experience project in addition to women from the Tlingit, Muckleshoot, Oglala Sioux, Menominee, and Seneca communities.

While this film concludes the fall events associated with the Common Reading text “Braiding Sweetgrass,” there will be a full new calendar of events in spring semester, featuring speakers, films, an artist-in-residence, and arts workshops. The Common Reading Program provides verification of student attendance at all events, making them an easy way to expand student engagement with a variety of campus events and resources for course credit. If you have questions about the program or ideas for collaborations, contact program direction Karen Weathermon, kweathermon@wsu.edu.
