Common Reading Events this Week on Policing, Body-Worn Cameras

Programming for the MLK and the Common Reading programs continues this week with two events focused on law enforcement. This evening at 6 p.m., a screening of an Emmanuel Acho’s “Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man” focused on the Petaluma Police Department will be followed by a panel discussion hosted by the Office of Outreach and Education. Topics in this episode include defunding the police, Black Lives Matter, and police accountability.

A second event on Wednesday, March 10, at noon, will feature Dale Willits from the WSU Criminal Justice and Criminology Department, who will talk on “Body-Worn Cameras, Justice, and Police Behavior.” Willits will draw from his experience as a co-investigator in WSU’s Complex Social Interaction Lab, which analyzes police bodycam  footage in order to improve police-community interactions.

More information about the events as well as Zoom links are available at the Common Reading website calendar, https://commonreading.wsu.edu/calendar.
