The Foley Institute will be hosting three Coffee & Politics events in the upcoming week. In addition to Jim Elliott on Monday, and Chief Justice Barbara Madsen on Friday, please join us for Mark Stephan, who will be answering the question, “Is Transparency Good for Democracy?”
Words like “open government” are often associated with democracy without an understanding of what transparency in such a system actually means. Mark Stephan will speak about the role of transparency in public policy implementation. He argues for a rethinking of democratic accountability in the 21st century.
Mark Stephan is an associate professor in the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at Washington State University. His research is in the areas of environmental information disclosure policy and citizen involvement in environmental decision-making. His recently published book is Coming Clean: Information Disclosure and Environmental Performance.
Join us for pizza, pop, and interesting conversation. RSVP to relgar@wsu.edu.
