Office 365 mailboxes, used by WSU students, have a new email filtering feature called Clutter that is “on” by default. It is designed to help sort the most important messages in the inbox. It uses machine learning to de-clutter the inbox by moving lower priority messages out of the way and into a Clutter folder. Clutter is only a feature in Office 365 mailboxes, and is not used on the Information Technology Services (ITS) Exchange service.
ITS has received feedback from customers about the Office 365 Clutter feature moving important emails to the Clutter folder which has caused some to miss their important emails. Therefore, ITS has decided to disable this feature in all mailboxes to help ensure our customers don’t miss any important email. Clutter will be disabled for Office 365 mailboxes effective June 3, 2016. The messages that were determined to be less important by the Clutter feature will no longer be automatically moved to the Clutter folder.
The Clutter feature is very simple to turn back on should some wish to continue to use it, ITS recommends that anyone using it should review their Clutter folder on a regular basis for important emails.
