Be the Change during the Week of Welcome with the Center for Civic Engagement

The CCE invites students, staff and faculty to join us during WOW 2014 to learn how you can get involved in your community this year. This year, the CCE will hold an open house on Tuesday, Aug. 19; will lead a visit to the Pullman Farmer’s Market on Wednesday, Aug. 20; and will hold a variety of one-time service projects on Saturday, Aug. 23.

The Open House on Tuesday will take place 2:10 p.m. – 4 p.m. in CUB L45. The CCE helps students find community service projects, provides civil dialogue opportunities on current issues, supports student voting, provides programming for four national days of service and two awareness weeks, and much more. The Open House is a great way to get a head start on community service this year.

On Wednesday at 4 p.m., the CCE will lead interested students, staff and faculty from CUB L45 to the Pullman Farmer’s Market downtown. The Farmer’s Market offers organic locally grown produce locally sourced artisan breads as well as live entertainment. Visiting the farmer’s market is a great way to learn more about your community and to stock up on tasty local treats! Students are asked to sign up for this event on CougSync.

To wrap up the CCE’s WOW programming, the CCE will hold two great service projects in the community on Saturday morning. The first project option is a Moscow Area Mountain Bike Association trail build from 8:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., while the second project option is to care for horses at Orphan Acres from 9:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. For students, the CCE provides free transportation to each project from the campus and back. Space is limited, so sign up early! Faculty and staff are welcome to participate in these projects but must provide their own transportation. Contact the CCE for expected arrival time and addresses for these projects.

Visit cce.wsu.edu/wow to learn more about these events or to register for projects.
