Dr. Wendy Powers, recently appointed Dean of WSU’s College of Agricultural, Human, and Natural Resource Sciences, will be introduced to Whitman County and Pullman on Friday, Aug. 19, at Pullman Depot Heritage Center’s Depot Days celebration. Pullman mayor and Depot honorary co‑chair Glenn Johnson will emcee a celebration beginning at 7 p.m. that also recognizes naming rights donors Mary Schweitzer and Bob King.

Dr. Powers, the first recipient of the Cashup Davis Family Endowed Deanship of CAHNRS, joins Washington State University from the University of California and is expected to make a few remarks.

Jeff Burnside, in collaboration with Gordon W. Davis, wrote “Cashup Davis: The Inspiring life of a Secret Mentor,” and will be in attendance to sign advance copies of the book.

The Friday evening open house also features two new displays. First, demonstration trains that brought new technologies to small communities and were sometimes called a ‘county fair on wheels.’ The second on the Northern Pacific Great Big Baked Potato: a staple served in NP dining cars in the 1900s.

A virtual model being developed by WSU’s Integrated Design and Construction Lab will allow visitors to explore the historic building in its future, fully restored state.

The Depot will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Pullman Depot Heritage Center is a project of the Whitman County Historical Society and is currently undergoing restoration.
