Dr. Lawrence Pintak (Founding Dean & Professor, WSU Edward R. Murrow College of Communication, former CBS correspondent for the Middle East)

“America & Islam: A Tortured Relationship”

The forces that shape American perceptions of Islam date back to the dawn of the U.S. republic. In recent decades, the relationship has been defined by soundbites and suicide bombs, most vividly in the 2016 president campaign and the two years since. This talk will look at the long history that brought us to the present moment and the way in which anti-Muslim rhetoric has energized American Muslims to engage politically for the first time.
