ADVANCE at WSU Workshop: ‘The Art & Practice of Academic Negotiation’

ADVANCE at WSU invites faculty, graduate students, and post-doctoral scholars to a full-day, interactive workshop The Art & Practice of Academic Negotiation. The opening and afternoon sessions will be available via Zoom. Please note that all sessions include substantial interactive group work on the Pullman campus.

Each session is open to all participants but is intentionally designed around milestones commonly encountered at distinct career stages:

  • Understanding Yourself — Conflict Styles and Effective Negotiation: Explore your negotiation style using the DYNAD and discuss strengths and limits in small groups; open to academics at all stages.
  • Negotiation Skills Workshop for Trainees: Focuses on authorship, job offers, funding, and key career conversations for graduate students and post-docs.
  • Early Career Negotiation Skills Workshop: Focuses on roles, resources, and recognition for early career faculty- appointments, grants, promotion, and tenure.
  • Mid-to-Late Career Negotiation Skills Workshop: Covers leadership, recognition, and long-term planning.
