ADVANCE at WSU presents: ‘The Art & Practice of Academic Negotiation’

Advance at WSU invites WSU faculty, graduate students, and scholars at every career stage to an interactive workshop with Andrea Kupfer Schneider, internationally recognized negotiation scholar, professor, and co-author of Smart & Savvy: Negotiation Strategies in Academia, for a dynamic, research‑informed experience where participants will learn five core capacities that shape effective academic negotiation: assertiveness, empathy, flexibility, social intuition, and ethics.

Participants will:

  • Identify their own conflict and negotiation styles
  • Recognize negotiation as a core academic skill across teaching, research, and leadership roles
  • Develop strategies for navigating difficult conversations and power dynamics
  • Strengthen collaboration, feedback, and advocacy skills
  • Practice the five core negotiation capacities through interactive activities

Workshop details:

Friday, Feb. 20, 9 a.m. – 5:15 p.m.
The Alger Family Club Room inside Gesa Field
WSU Pullman campus

Participants can register for the event online.

This free event is open to all WSU faculty and graduate students and is designed to support scholars at every career stage.
