WSU is scheduled to remove older Canvas course content effective July 1, 2026, as part of its student records retention policy, which limits course content storage to five years after the fiscal year in which a course was taught.
On July 1, course content from Spring 2021 and earlier will be permanently deleted from Canvas. After this date, the content will no longer be accessible and cannot be restored.
Instructors and departments are encouraged to review their Canvas courses and identify any content that must be retained for academic, administrative, or program needs. Required content should be exported before the course’s scheduled removal date to ensure continued access.
This removal process applies to Credit and Non-Credit courses only. Sandbox and Continuous courses (non-credit courses that do not have an end date) are not affected and will remain available.
