Following a recent update by Information Technology Services (ITS), passcode protection is now the default security setting for new WSU Zoom meetings. All meetings created after Jan. 18, are now automatically protected with the passcode security option.
Security settings for Zoom meetings created before Jan. 18 remain unaffected by this change.
WSU users will continue to have the ability to enable required authentication or a waiting room as an alternate or additional security option for any WSU Zoom meeting via the WSU Zoom portal.
Prior to Jan. 18, ITS used the required authentication option as the default security setting, requiring participants to sign into Zoom before joining a WSU Zoom meeting. Changing this default setting to passcode protection will alleviate issues WSU and non-WSU participants experienced when attempting to join meetings configured with required authentication.
To disable required authentication for WSU Zoom meetings created before Jan. 18 and enable a different security option, hosts can refer to this instructional guide in the WSU Knowledge Base.
WSU continues to require all Zoom meetings be secured with at least one security option (passcode, required authentication, or waiting rooms) to protect from Zoom bombing and help technical support teams respond to calls for assistance.
