Sociology Chair Julie Kmec will give a talk titled “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” as part of this year’s Common Reading series at noon on Tuesday, September 28, via Zoom. While most Americans live in racially segregated neighborhoods, it is not a characteristic we think often about. Kmec argues that we should. Her talk will cover the origins of housing segregation, what it looks like now, and its far-reaching consequences.
Kmec’s talk is part of the year-long consideration of topics dealing with inequality, inspired by use of this year’s Common Reading book, the anthology Tales of Two Americas: Stories of a Inequality in a Divided Nation. The full calendar of events and activities can be found at https://commonreading.wsu.edu/calendar and on the Common Reading Presence site.
