Keep Moving On! That has been the mantra of everyone over the past year. The opera/musical theatre students, under the direction of Dr. Julie Anne Wieck and assisted by collaborative pianist, Elena Panchenko, have been rehearsing remotely all semester on a wonderful array of music by the Broadway genius, Stephen Sondheim. Songs from many of his hit musicals have been rehearsed via Zoom and then recorded by each singer individually to be combined by cast member Bryce Weber, a composition graduate student in the program. The cast also includes a vocal performance graduate student, Kayla Ray, a senior vocal performance major, Anya Guadamuz and a senior pre-vet student, Jadyn Denham. Joining the cast are Dr. Wieck and Dr. Angelica Dunsavage, another music faculty member, as well as two WSU alumni; Andrew Turner, now performing with Des Moines Metro and Virgina Opera companies as a young artist and Kristofer Barber, now working and singing in the Netherlands, bring their experience and talent to the program once again. Singing across the world in 4 different time zones has been a challenge but then so has everything else and we are excited to share our production with everyone for WSU Family Weekend, on Friday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m., streaming on Youtube @WSU Music Pullman.
