LTD Open Enrollment – What do I need to know about the new Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML) and LTD insurance?

Due to Washington’s new Paid Family Medical Leave (PFML), the 30 and 60 day waiting periods are no longer being offered to new employees, or available during this month’s LTD open enrollment period, and will be ending for those who currently have those waiting periods on January 1, 2020.

The maximum payout period under PFML will be 12 weeks, and in certain circumstances up to 18 weeks. If you need to be off work beyond the PFML period and if eligible, you could potentially receive benefits under an LTD claim. There also may be situations that would not be covered under PFML that would be covered by LTD. Therefore, LTD can provide long-term benefits that PFML cannot.

Visit the Washington State Paid Family & Medical Leave site to learn more about PFML, and the LTD Open Enrollment Post for additional information about this coverage and the ongoing open enrollment.
