Even as newspaper presses across the country are shutting down, the need for trained, professional journalists is as great as it ever was, according to Bob Schieffer and Helen Thomas, the two veteran journalists who will each receive the 2009 Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Beasley Performing Arts Coliseum.

PULLMAN – Former White House Bureau Chief Helen Thomas and CBS News’ Chief Washington Correspondent Bob Schieffer will appear in Second Life for an interactive Q&A session, held at 5:30 p.m. April 6 on both the real and virtual campuses of WSU.

The duo are the recipients of this year’s 2009 Edward R. Murrow Lifetime Achievement Award in Journalism and in Broadcast Journalism, respectively.

“Unbound” Black History Month art exhibit at Tri-Cities

RICHLAND — “Unbound,” an exhibition of about 30 works by African-American artists in the Pacific Northwest, opens with a reception at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at WSU Tri-Cities.
 
About 30 pieces will be on display by artists Earnie Thomas, Rajaa Gharbi, Carol Williams, Agazit Ocbazgi, Jessica Enouf, Joachim McMillan, Cynthis Fowler and Angelena McQuarter.
 
The exhibit is in The Art Center, inside the Consolidated Information Center, 2770 University Drive. Admission is free and open to the public. The exhibit is sponsored by the WSU Tri-Cities Multicultural Club.
