Vice chancellor’s abstract paintings on exhibit

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Several colorful abstract paintings by Leonard Orr, vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of English at Washington State University Vancouver, are on display in the Engineering Life Sciences building through Aug. 31.


Orr’s works have no predetermined orientation and he makes no sketches or advance plans. Many pieces use broad brush strokes and dripping paint, although Orr never paints two consecutive paintings in the same way.


When putting together a show, Orr often finds the pieces that naturally go together have been painted years apart.

Poets, poetry fans will welcome new Open Mic hosts

RICHLAND – WSU Tri-Cities invites poets of all ages and experience levels to share their creativity at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Open Mic Poetry Reading Night.


The free, public event will be in the East Building Auditorium.


Open Mic participation is open to all styles — hip-hop, cowboy, rhyming, free verse and even chanting poets. People who register via a sign-up sheet that is passed around at the start of the event are invited to the microphone to read an original poem that is no longer than 1-1/2 pages. RICHLAND – Poets are invited to share their creativity at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the free, public Open Mic Poetry Reading Night in the East Building auditorium at WSU Tri-Cities.


“We have had performance poets and hip-hop poets, cowboy poets, rhyming or free verse poets, even chanting poets,” said Leonard Orr, WSU Tri-Cities academic director of the College of Liberal Arts, an English professor, published poet and host of the monthly open mic events.
