School of Hospitality Business Management hosts week of hospitality events

Hospitality Week events include an expert industry panel at noon in the CUB Senior Ballroom and on Zoom that will feature tourism experts discussing how destination management organizations drive tourism and support hospitality.

PULLMAN, Wash. — The School of Hospitality Business Management at Washington State University will kick off its annual Hospitality Week Tuesday, Feb. 27, featuring a lineup of events open to the public, including the Burtenshaw Distinguished Lecture.

Tuesday’s events include an expert industry panel at noon in the CUB Senior Ballroom and on Zoom that will feature tourism experts discussing how destination management organizations drive tourism and support hospitality.   • Rose Nobel, president and CEO, Visit Spokane
  • Kevin Lewis, president and CEO, Visit Tri-Cities
  • Jerri Barkley, executive director, Visit Chelan County

At 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the Women in Hospitality panel will feature career perspectives via Zoom from four hospitality professionals. The panel will be offered in partnership with ForWardThinking, an American Hotel and Lodging Association Foundation initiative aimed at mentoring, educating and leading women to the next level of their careers.   • Liz Dahlager, chief operating officer, Merete Hotel Management
  • Leigh Swistock, director of HR, Hilton Salt Lake City Center
  • Katelyn Majcen, senior director, franchise development strategy, Choice Hotels
  • Anne Shimabukuro, VP of finance, PM Hotel Group

At 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, the School of Hospitality Business Management will host a panel of beverage industry experts in the CUB Junior Ballroom and on Zoom. Event information is available on the Beverage Industry Expert Panel website. Panelists include:

  • Don Poffenroth, founder & CEO, Dry Fly Distilling
  • Sarrah Harding, general manager, Nocking Point Wines
  • Jeremy Kyncl, head mead maker, Hierophant Meadery

The Granger Cobb Institute for Senior living will host a senior living lecture at 3:30 p.m. in the CUB Junior Ballroom and on Zoom featuring Tracey Gendron, chair of the Department of Gerontology at Virginia Commonwealth University and the executive director of the Virginia Center on Aging. Gendron will present “Unmasking Ageism.” Event information is available on the Granger Cobb Speaker Event website.

On Thursday, Feb. 29, Howard Wright, chair and founder of the Seattle Hospitality Group LLC, will present “A Conversation with Howard Wright” at the annual Burtenshaw Distinguished Lecture at 1:30 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium and on Zoom.
