Task force receiving comments on proposed parking rate increases and zone changes

PULLMAN, Wash. — The Washington State University Parking and Transportation Task Force is receiving public comment regarding a proposed three year parking rate increase on annual and daily parking permits and hourly rates. The rate increase would take effect July 1 for the Pullman campus if implemented. Please visit the Proposed Parking Rate and Zone Change web page for details regarding the proposed rates.

The proposal would provide funds for an estimated $14 million in deferred capital projects, addressing maintenance and repairs for surface parking lots, parking garages, and elevators. It would also aid with the recovery of lost revenue as a result of the COVID‑19 pandemic.

The proposal also includes some zone changes that primarily address the addition of more parking for residence students and converting some parking areas to increase hourly parking options on campus. These zone changes can be seen on the Proposed Parking Rate and Zone Change web page.

The review and comment period will be open through March 28. Comments can be submitted via email at transportation@wsu.edu. The Task Force will then review and consider comments regarding the proposed parking rate changes.

Transportation Services is a self-supported auxiliary and does not receive federal, state, grant or tuition funding. Revenue for capital projects, maintenance, and operations comes solely from parking fees and fines. Transportation Services is tasked with financing, managing, and maintaining parking facilities as well as facilitating and promoting transportation options on the WSU Pullman campus.

The main objective of the Task Force is to have an established internal review process that provides WSU with a campus wide perspective and broad representation on parking and transportation issues.

Parking patrons are encouraged to consider alternatives to driving alone such as biking, walking, transit, carpooling, etc. For more information and personal assistance regarding alternatives, check out the Coug Commute Advisor program.
