MILL CREEK, Wash. – With an alarming increase in the number of dead trees throughout Pacific Northwest, taking better care of forested areas is critical. Owners of wooded property in Washington State will build skills for caring for their land and trees at the 2020 Washington Forest Owners’ Online Field Day on Saturday, Oct. 24 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m..
Washington State University Extension, the Snohomish Conservation District, and the Society of American Foresters will host the mid-day online event, which will feature workshops and demonstrations on a variety of topics for forest property owners of all skill levels, from “newbie” to seasoned veteran. Participants can choose up to four workshops to attend. Topics include forest health issues in Washington State, wildlife, wildfire prevention, mushroom cultivation on logs, invasive weed control, and more.
In an effort to keep the “field” in the Field Day, the Extension Forestry team will be bringing the field to you this year. Instead of having forest owners watch multiple PowerPoint presentations, they will be recording expert speakers in the field, allowing them to provide real-life demonstrations and access to a range of sites that would not be possible even during the typical in-person event. The videos will be streamed via Zoom with the speakers available to discuss and answer questions.
Pre-registration is required, but attendance is free. Youth under 18 are welcome, and encouraged, so bring your next generation of forest stewards.
