Paul Rucker, a multitalented visual artist, composer, musician and speaker will lecture and perform on the WSU Pullman campus Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 14‑15, with some performances available via streaming.
Throughout his career, Rucker has been the recipient of numerous grants, awards and residencies, from various organizations including:

- Artist Trust
- Washington State Arts Commission
- 4Culture
- Creative Capital Foundation
- Headlands Center for the Arts
- Pilchuck Glass School
Rucker combines media, live performance, sound, original compositions and visual art to investigate community impacts, human rights issues, historical research and basic human emotions surrounding a subject.
His performances at WSU are sponsored by the WSU School of Music, Allegro — a ASWSU supported student organization, the WSU Black Student Union, and the WSU Department of Fine Arts.
Rucker will begin his visit with a lecture titled “Normalization,” 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, in the CUB auditorium. He will discuss themes from his featured TED Talks addressing systemic racism and mass incarceration. Rucker’s lecture will be streamed live via WSU’s Global Connections. Rucker will join WSU student musicians at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Holland Library Atrium, when he will play his cello to improvise on student artwork and poetry.
Later Tuesday, he will perform a multimedia and cello performance at 8 p.m. in the Spark G0045.
