PULLMAN, Wash. – The latest tools in the fight against farm weeds will be the focus of the 2018 Weed Science Field Tour, led by Washington State University crop and soil science experts, 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 13, at the R.J. Cook Agronomy Farm near Pullman.
Drew Lyon, WSU’s Endowed Chair for Small Grains Extension and Research, and Ian Burke, Professor of Weed Science, will lead discussions on weed management practices and direct a tour of research plots.
“Our Weed Science Tour is a unique way for growers, crop consultants, company representatives and university researchers to look at research plots together and discuss some of the latest technologies for weed management in wheat and pulse crops,” said Lyon.
Topics include broadleaf weed control in pulse crops; Italian ryegrass control in winter wheat; weed controls for spring wheat; the CoAXium wheat production system; and the Long-Term Agricultural Research (LTAR) project at WSU.
Registration is free and starts at 12:30 p.m. at the Plant Pathology building, adjacent to the Cook Farm. Plot tours will begin at 1 p.m.
Refreshments will be offered throughout the tour, and a lightly catered social hour follows.
