SPOKANE, Wash. – Gov. Jay Inslee has appointed Janet Frost to the Washington STEM Education Innovation Alliance, which advises the governor about development and implementation of policies to advance STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education.
Frost (https://education.wsu.edu/frost/) is a clinical associate professor of mathematics education in Washington State University’s College of Education. Located on the Spokane campus, she is associate director of the WSU Health Sciences STEM Education Research Center (https://spokane.wsu.edu/about/community-outreach/health-science-stem-education-research-center/).
“This work is important in so many ways,” she said. “I am particularly excited to see how the alliance can help more diverse and underserved Washington students enter the STEM-based health science professions that are so needed by and beneficial to their home communities.”
“Janet is a consummate educator and well respected in Washington state,” said college dean Mike Trevisan. “She has spent much of her career advancing K-12 STEM education by providing first-class professional development opportunities for teachers – opportunities supported by grants and contracts to WSU.”
The alliance (http://www.wsac.wa.gov/STEM-Alliance) is part of the Washington Student Achievement Council, which was created by the state legislature in 2012 to provide strategic planning, oversight, advocacy and programs to support student success and high levels of educational attainment.
