In order to move to chair, department faculty completed the process of submitting preference ballots, as outlined in WSU’s faculty manual. College dean Mike Trevisan said the overwhelming number of faculty preference ballots supporting Akmal for permanent chair, shows Akmal has the vote of confidence from his colleagues.

“The Department of Teaching and Learning houses the teacher preparation program, a program central to the College of Education, so it is critical that the chair understands and embraces this reality,” Trevisan said. “Tariq Akmal is the clear choice. He has been with the college for almost 20 years, has worked in a variety of capacities dealing with the teacher preparation program, and is extremely well respected.

“He has both real-world experience as a teacher, and has since stayed up-to-date on the issues and challenges that teachers currently face. He’s well prepared to fill this important role.”

In addition to the teacher education program, the Department of Teaching and Learning (https://education.wsu.edu/college/tl/) supports and maintains a variety of graduate degrees.
