Changki Mo, academic director and professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at WSU Tri-Cities, has been named a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

About 3,000 members of the ASME have been recognized for outstanding engineering achievements by being named fellows. The professional society has about 70,000 members in more than 130 countries, according to the ASME website.

With WSU since 2010, Mo conducts research in robotics and automation; renewable bio-nanomaterials; vehicular and structural vibration control; and smart materials and structures.

His research projects have included work to harvest strawberries with robots and advanced robotic approaches to pollination for improved fruit crop yields. He is also involved in a project to use plant-based nanocrystals to protect fruit from frost damage early in the spring.

Mo has more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and holds seven patents. He has received research support from federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation and USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture program.

Mo holds a master’s degree and PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree from South Korea’s Inha University.
